The Triple-Tiered Guardians

They are everything—perfect ancient, grumpy forest spirits, Ents from a fantasy novel, a dripping wax sculpture—or nothing. It all depends on what you see.

A vertical totem pole of carved faces. The protrusion in the central trunk gives the face a long, drooping nose and a heavy brow. The smaller, flatter section just beneath it resembles a face looking slightly downward, with its chin tucked right under the first one. And the bottom one looks like a rounded head, with dark spots that look like two eyes and a little mouth.

The rugged, chunky bark adds to these human-like characteristics. They aren’t smooth, happy faces, but are probably what I’ll look like when I’m as old as them.

Located in the heart of San Jose, Rosicrucian Park is designed with ancient Egyptian and Moorish aesthetics, making these 'ancient spirit' tree faces feel even more at home.
